HR & Patient Administrator (Maternity Cover)

Newmedica Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, United Kingdom

Newmedica are one of the leading providers of NHS ophthalmology services in England, providing outpatients appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery. We aim to change lives through better sight and eye health.

We care for thousands of NHS and private patients a year in our specialist eye clinics across the country. We have significant growth plans over the next few years as we look to establish a national footprint and open many new sites across the UK.

We are thrilled to say that following an independently conducted survey of Newmedica colleagues, we have been certified as a Great Place to Work®. This is a global benchmark that recognises employers who create an outstanding employee experience.

Role overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an HR and Patient Administrator to join us at our clinic in Newcastle. You will spend roughly half of your time on HR duties and half on administration tasks, although this may vary depending on the needs of the service. This is a fixed‑term contract of approximately 12 months to cover maternity leave, 40 hours per week. Interviews begin on 3 December; the successful applicant is expected to start in January.

Responsibilities

* Support the efficient running of the HR service: recruitment and onboarding, payroll, maintenance of the HR Information System (BambooHR), performance, absence, disciplinary and grievance issues.
* Act as the primary contact for routine HR queries and employee record maintenance.
* Ensure clinical registrations are monitored and updated accurately.
* Work as part of the patient administration team to deliver an effective service: set up diaries, fully utilise appointments, record outcomes, and file results.
* Operate in a fast‑paced, changing environment, juggling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
* Contribute to a collaborative, team‑player culture and display a flexible, adaptable approach.

Qualifications and experience

* Reliable and adaptable administrator with a strong desire to grow within the HR field.
* CIPD Level 3 is advantageous but not essential.
* Experience with payroll and pre‑employment checks.
* Familiarity with an HR Information System for maintaining accurate employee data and reporting.
* Competent user of computers and all Office 365 programmes.
* Exceptional administration and communication skills, with the ability to adapt your approach to different situations.

What we’re offering

* A salary of £26,208
* 25 days annual leave pro‑rata plus bank holidays
* A company pension scheme
* Access to benefits including free eye tests, discounted or free glasses, death in service cover, cycle‑to‑work scheme, and the Blue Light Card discount scheme
* Learning and development opportunities through a range of tools and courses
* Working with a friendly multi‑disciplinary team passionate about improving patients’ lives
* A bright, spacious and modern working environment built to the highest standards
