London firm, well-regarded for the work it does in Charities law is looking to recruit a Charities lawyer of 0 to 4 years’ PQE. The team provides broad legal assistance and expertise to the charity and not-for-profit sector, covering all the areas affecting institutions in these sectors, and those engaging with them. The work will encompass charity structuring and restructuring, governance and constitutional matters, trading and relationships with non-charitable subsidiaries, charity tax and fundraising regulation as well as practice and business development.
The successful candidate will assist partners and other associates/senior lawyers in the team on a full range of legal matters for charity and institutional clients. You will also have the ability to display confidence and autonomy in dealing with your own caseload of smaller matters (with an appropriate level of Partner supervision depending on your PQE). You will also be expected to get involved in a range of business development initiatives and develop a profile amongst peers and in the wider sector. This will include verbal and written presentations in various media on technical and topical subjects, and the delivery of training to clients and contacts. If you are already qualified, you will ideally have some experience in the field of charity law ideally including at least some of the following: • charity structuring and restructuring (including formation, incorporation, mergers and group arrangements) • governance and constitutional matters • trading and relationships with non-charitable subsidiaries • charity tax and fundraising regulation (including the regime for professional fundraisers and commercial participators). If you are newly-qualified, you will obviously be of interest if you have undertaken a seat in Charities law but our client is also keen to hear from newly-qualified lawyers who may not have undertaken a Charities seat but can demonstrate a keen interest in this specialised field of law, together with a strong willingness to learn and to develop their technical knowledge and experience.
