Mission Description
Job Summary: To develop effective engineering project plans, track progress, resolve problems, develop solutions and forecast project and product cost performance. Coordinate with other functional units, identify and address project issues, gather and analyse data to support the development of solutions and recommendations to solve problems, meeting schedule commitments and optimising performance.
Scope of Responsibilities: You act within a small team of peers without direct responsibility for staff, managing across a functional matrix structure within the Technical Domain. Your focus is on effective planning and execution of engineering projects to meet or exceed agreed performance metrics. You are the technical focal point for the project across the entire business and for customer and airframe‑facing stakeholders.
Location & Travel: The role is based in Cwmbran, Wales with occasional travel to international locations (suppliers, customers, Safran sites).
Key Responsibilities
* You support the IPT in identifying project risk, mitigation actions and contingency plans.
* You support the development of project plans, schedules and budgets.
* You track progress of project tasks across multi‑functional engineering teams.
* You resolve schedule conflict and develop technical solutions with inputs from technical functional teams, ensuring high levels of quality of technical deliverables.
* You are able to provide a clear project status both internally and to the customer.
* You are responsible to track performance against budget for NRC and RC P4.
* You may be responsible to ensure effective management of large work packages across group business units or with partners.
* You may liaise with the customer to present technical solutions and their impact on programme schedule.
* You collate inputs to generate and maintain customer product specifications and are responsible for creating and maintaining coherent work breakdown structures.
* You manage technical requirements relevant to your project scope, through a systems engineering approach and you are responsible to track technical changes.
* You are responsible to participate in design reviews throughout each phase of the new product introduction process.
* You are responsible to deliver the engineering requirements in support of the business gated processes (MER, PROMPT, PLS).
Qualifications & Experience
* HNC/HND within a related engineering discipline (Essential)
* Engineering degree within an aerospace‑related discipline (Essential)
* Typically having greater than 5 years of experience in an engineering discipline or a technical project management role (Desirable)
* Previous experience managing multi‑functional teams, including in a remote working setting (Essential)
* A good understanding of the certification framework within which the work is undertaken (Essential)
* Awareness of configuration management principles and change management processes (Desirable)
* Experienced in preparation of business cases or bids for new programmes, including technical specification preparation (Essential)
* Understanding of financial management within a new product development environment (Essential)
* Recognised qualification in project management (e.g., PRINCE2, APMP, or PMQ) (Desirable)
* Systems engineering knowledge (requirements engineering, MBSE, functional design), mechanical, electrical and systems design, DFMEA, PFMEA (Essential)
* Ability to lead and influence a multi‑functional team in a transversal management structure, without direct line management responsibility (Essential)
* Pro‑active, confident work across multiple disciplines, and self‑reliant, highly motivated, achievement‑oriented (Essential)
* High level of analytical skills for complex problem solving (Essential)
* Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, active listening and the ability to build good working relationships across departments and with external stakeholders (Essential)
* Ability to process high volumes of information and present clear, understandable information to diverse audiences (Essential)
* Comfort communicating with executives and senior executives (Desirable)
