We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Facilities Monitoring Auditor to join our Soft FM Compliance Team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and qualified professional with proven experience in performance monitoring and auditing with particular focus on improving the patient experience.

This is a Band 3 position working 37.5 hours over 5 days in Brighton RSCH (across UHSussex).

This is a high-profile role and requires a competent and experienced auditor with good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels, both verbally and in writing. Previous experience of working in Soft FM department, knowledge of COSHH, hygiene standards, Infection Prevention within the workplace and understanding of NHS National Cleaning Standards requirements are all essential.

Working towards NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles, NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control or equivalent experience of on-job training is desirable.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be monitoring Soft FM customer services for all patients, staff and visitors who attend the UHSussex sites. You will have responsibility for the processing of both internal and external audit reviews, surveys, inspections which take place on regular basis within the Trust. You will report your findings and escalate to the appropriate service manager within a timely manner.

To work with other members of the team to assist in improvements in quality in the most effective and efficient way, and to provide appropriate training as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Contribute/participate in monitoring audits relating to services within the site and produce action plans
2. Escalate the outcome of audits and agree actions plans ensuring action is taken if necessary
3. Distribute, collate, and analyse the results of surveys
4. Plan and implement monitoring deliverables, ensuring that targets and milestones are met, all information provided is accurate and delivered on time
5. Ensure a close and beneficial relationship with all clinical wards/departments and that all relevant activities, processes, and documentation is efficiently resourced, implemented, controlled, and maintained.
6. Ensure that you respect the privacy and dignity of patients whilst carrying out your duties
7. Undertake weekly cleaning/environmental audits to enable conclusions to be drawn and recommendations to be made as to the areas of non-compliance with statutory, mandatory, and best practice guidance.
8. Assist with the delivery of training ensuring that the highest standards are maintained.
9. Identify any competency issues following delivery of training and report directly to the Learning and Development Manager
10. Assist with the soft FM aspects of external audits that take place e.g. PLACE, CQC and PEER reviews, follow up recommendations and co-ordinate any actions
11. Ensure ward notice boards are displaying up to date cleaning scores, also cleaning schedules and all other relevant information pertaining to the Housekeeping/Catering/Nursing services.
12. Carry out individual service audits to ensure working practices and information management are carried out in line with departmental policies and procedures.
13. Carry out ad hoc Patient satisfaction surveys on wards documenting results and collate results on a monthly basis and escalate to Facilities Compliance Manager.
14. Attend all quality team meetings, management team meetings and training and development days/sessions throughout the year.
15. Discuss reports with Facilities Compliance Manager in sufficient detail to enable conclusions to be drawn and recommendations to be made as to areas of non-compliance with statutory, mandatory, and best practice guidance.
16. Evaluate testing procedures to meet the standard required for services such as post.
17. Constantly review working practices in the service departments in order to identify where operational improvements can be made and make recommendations in response to the changing needs of the department.
18. Assist in ensuring that Soft FM provide a suitable healthcare environment in accordance with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025.
19. Respond to complaints received by the Trust regarding Patient Services.

Experience/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

20. A good level of general education, numeracy and literacy acquired through NVQ L3 or equivalent experience.
21. A good standard of English is essential for effective communication and understanding
22. Significant experience of working in a hospital environment
23. Knowledge of COSHH, hygiene standards and infection control within the workplace
24. Understanding of NHS National Standards requirements.
25. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook
26. Excellent verbal and written communicator

Desirable criteria

27. Working towards NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles, NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control.
28. Recent experience of collecting, calculating, interpreting, and disseminating performance and monitoring related data
29. Awareness of different techniques, processes and approaches utilised in monitoring and measuring the impact and performance of services
