Salary Up to £90,000 + car allowance, 15/20% bonus etc
Robert Half are thrilled to be working with a client in the construction sector as they search for a Head of Commercial and Finance. This position combines commercial oversight with financial leadership, ensuring the business is profit-focused, efficient, and equipped with robust systems and processes. You'll lead finance, procurement, and commercial operations while driving improvements in revenue growth, cost reduction, and overall efficiency.
Core Purpose
* Provide accurate financial and commercial insight, and act on it to deliver improvements.
* Lead finance, procurement, and ERP/business systems.
* Identify risks and opportunities, negotiating effectively to secure strong commercial outcomes.
Responsibilities
Commercial
* Lead monthly business reviews with the Senior Management Team.
* Ensure accurate reporting of performance across business areas.
* Analyse costs, forecasts, and trends, resolving issues as needed.
* Oversee costing models and pricing strategies.
* Conduct market analysis to identify profit opportunities.
* Review sales data regularly to drive improvements.
* Develop processes that improve efficiency and support growth.
* Mitigate commercial risks while maximising opportunities.
* Provide customer and market insights to support sales and marketing
Finance
* Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
* Support audits and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
* Manage budgets and financial planning with management teams.
* Prepare capital expenditure proposals and arrange asset financing.
* Deliver business modelling and financial analysis to support decision-making.
* Lead the transactional finance team.
* Produce monthly management accounts with variance analysis.
* Investigate variances and recommend corrective action.
* Forecast and manage cash flow.
Procurement
* Evaluate and manage suppliers.
* Negotiate contracts and terms.
* Oversee demand forecasting.
* Drive cost savings and efficiency.
* Manage risk and sustainability in supplier relationships.
What We're Looking For
Essential
* Strong commercial and business acumen.
* Advanced MS Office skills, particularly Excel modelling and analysis.
* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
* Ability to deliver accurate, timely information for decision-making.
* Understanding of manufacturing, stock management, distribution, and hire processes.
* Proactive problem solver with strong numeracy.
* Experience in financial management.
* Confident relationship-builder at all levels.
* Highly organised, able to prioritise multiple demands.
Desirable
* ACA/ACCA/CIMA Qualified
* Experience presenting strategy to internal and external stakeholders.
* Sector experience in construction (highly desirable)
