About the role

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and innovative teacher to contribute to the teaching of our Performing Arts course as a member of the Performing Arts department. We are seeking a specialist in dance to teach on this course. The successful candidate should have a proven record of engaging with students to produce a successful and dynamic classroom environment. The successful candidate should have the ability to deliver Dance in an engaging and creative way and contribute to the wider Performing Arts programme. You must be willing to actively use hand‑held technology to help facilitate student learning both inside and outside the classroom. We have an exciting collaboration with Portsmouth Theatres, working with their team and using their space as part of the programme. We are therefore seeking candidates who are committed and willing to work with us to continue to develop this exciting collaboration.

The style of dance is musical theatre jazz, and the successful applicant would need to be proficient in teaching this style. Whilst all students on the course are committed to developing their triple threat skills, initial levels of experience and ability in Dance vary.

The timetable is one day of teaching a week – Tuesdays.

As a teacher you need to plan and deliver learning across any programmes you deliver to at least a good standard. You need to support, engage, and stretch your learners in such ways as to enable them to meet or exceed their target grades. You must set, assess, and give feedback on a suitable quantity and quality of student work in a timely fashion, to help learners make good or better progress. This should include preparation work for flipped learning activities. You must help your learners meet awarding body requirements for qualifications. You must do all you can to meet or exceed College success rate targets. You need to aspire to achieve outstanding results in the subjects you are delivering.


Key Responsibilities

* To teach on a range of programmes, providing high‑quality learning opportunities that meet the needs of individual students/apprentices and groups in line with the College’s strategic priorities and objectives.
* To provide flexible assessment opportunities and closely plan, monitor, track and record student/apprentice retention, achievement, and success.
* To contribute to the development and delivery of high‑quality, relevant curriculum and programmes. Curriculum Development responsibilities include:
o Actively contributing to the development of new programmes within the curriculum area
o Producing annual schemes of work and/or training plans for all subjects/programmes to be taught


Qualifications and Requirements

* Degree or equivalent qualification in Dance / Performing Arts or relevant industry experience
* Proven track record of teaching Dance / Performing Arts to 14‑19‑year‑olds
* Teaching Qualification or willing to work towards
* Ability to meet targets within set timescales
* Ability to work well in teams but also to work independently, with the minimum of supervision
* Demonstrate strong computer literacy, with confidence using a range of digital systems and software applications.
