The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Production/Works Manager to oversee manufacturing operations for a busy metal fabrication business based in Dudley. This is a hands-on leadership role, responsible for the day-to-day management of the workshop, ensuring production targets are met while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
A background in welding and fabrication is essential for this role-ideally with previous experience working as a welder/fabricator in a sheet metal environment. This practical knowledge will enable you to lead the team effectively, support problem-solving on the shop floor, and maintain high technical standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and coordinate all aspects of the production process from planning to dispatch
* Lead, motivate, and supervise the workshop team, including fabricators, welders, and general operatives
* Plan production schedules to meet customer deadlines and company targets
* Monitor production output and quality, implementing improvements where needed
* Ensure all work is carried out in line with health and safety regulations and company procedures
* Control stock levels of materials and liaise with suppliers where necessary
* Manage maintenance schedules for machinery and equipment to minimise downtime
* Work closely with senior management and the sales team to plan capacity and resource allocation
* Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency and reduce waste
* Handle workforce management tasks such as recruitment, training, and performance reviews
Key Skills & Experience Required:
* Proven experience in a Production Manager, Works Manager, or similar leadership role within a metal fabrication, engineering, or manufacturing environment
* Must have a background in welding and fabrication, ideally in sheet metal
* Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, welding (MIG/TIG), and general workshop operations
* Good understanding of health & safety and quality standards (ISO desirable)
* Excellent organisational and time management skills
* Strong people management and leadership abilities
* Problem-solving mindset with a hands-on approach
* IT literate - comfortable with production planning systems and basic reporting
* Forklift and overhead crane knowledge would be an advantage
Hours:
Monday to Friday - 7:30am to 4:30pm (flexibility may be required)

Up to ?50,000 per annum (depending on experience)
