Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse

The Trauma Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is one of the largest Major Trauma Centres in the UK. Our Trauma Unit consists of 2 wards at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site, wards 410 and 412. An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Ward 412 team to expand leadership on the ward, having day to day responsibility for its smooth running.

Ward 412 is a 32 bedded trauma ward, providing care to the most severely injured patients from across the region. The team on Ward 412 is supported by members of the Royal College of Defence Medicine working collaboratively to provide the highest standard of evidence based care.

Are you a motivated, experienced and enthusiastic registered nurse, looking for the perfect opportunity to lead, develop and support our acute trauma nursing teams?

The ward provides care for a variety of patients with Traumatic injuries and you will work closely with a wide variety of teams and specialities which include; Major Trauma Team, Hands, Plastics, Neurosurgery and Cardio Thoracic.

Main duties of the job

You will be assisting the Senior Sister in leading an experienced nursing team, providing clinical support to junior staff, assisting with patient flow, co-ordinating the management of the ward, optimising operational resources such as staff off duty, annual leave and sickness whilst acting as a role model to ensure that high quality care is delivered.

Our Nursing Team is Friendly, Approachable, Supportive, and Dynamic and is a Vital part of the MDT.

This role is ideal for those who have the right strengths and motivators, it's energizing and rewarding. We can offer guidance, support, training and development in consultation with our dedicated trauma clinical educator.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* *Registered Adult/ Child Nurse on the NMC register
* *Health care management / leadership qualification


Experience

* *Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff
* *Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD
* *Can demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council ( NMC ) standards for student supervision and assessment
* *Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
* *Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff
* *Experience of mentoring undergraduate students
* *Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift /area of department
* *Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice.
* *Demonstrable ability, experience, passion in the following:
