Nursing Assistant - Lung Cancer Screening
The closing date is 12 November 2025
We are looking for compassionate and caring Nursing Assistants who want to be a key part of the patient care journey at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). Our Nursing Assistants take pride in essential work and are dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-focused care.
You'll communicate in a sensitive and compassionate manner with patients, relatives, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team, and work flexibly across a range of day and night shifts over 7 days a week.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of the expanded Greater Manchester Targeted Lung Health Check programme, which provides lung cancer screening to people aged 55 to 74 who have ever smoked, from mobile clinics in the community.
There are 2 positions available: 1 x 37.5 hours.
This post will be mainly based in mobile clinics in the community in the Greater Manchester area. You will be required to travel to various sites across Greater Manchester including the Wigan area. You may also be asked to cover the Screening Hub based at Wythenshawe hospital.
Also MFT has lease car options available to successful postholders through the NHS Fleet Solutions car leasing salary sacrifice scheme.
Main duties of the job
Being supervised by Registered Nurses and within Trust guidelines and protocols, you will assist the Nursing team in delivering the excellent standard of patient care you would expect for yourself and your loved ones.
Following on-the-job training and assessment, you will learn how to undertake a range of delegated clinical care duties, including recording patient observations and changes to patient conditions.
On the Job Training Opportunities
On joining MFT, if you are new to working in healthcare, you will be supported to develop your knowledge and skills through our Support Worker Development Programme for Nursing Assistants. Completion of the programme provides the opportunity to progress into a Band 3 Nursing Assistant role.
If you are an experienced Nursing Assistant, you will undertake a skills analysis on start to identify any gaps and be supported to access relevant clinical skills modules to progress to a Band 3 post on completion.
Evidence of prior learning will be reviewed and considered.
