Responsibilities
* Collaborate with the nurse‑led sedation ANP team, day care nursing and anesthetist to co‑ordinate general anaesthesia and sedation lists.
* Act as a Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Paediatric sedation service, providing safe, effective sedation care (including GA) to children and young people with cancer.
* Provide expert clinical care throughout the patient’s sedation pathway from administration through to safe discharge.
* Participate in education, research and audit for the sedation service to continually improve patient experience and services.
* Work within the Trust’s Policies and Procedures and the local clinical protocols, standards and national guidelines such as NICE.
* Maintain documentation to Trust standard, including electronic records.
* Be competent and knowledgeable in the delivery of care for children and young people requiring sedation and general anaesthesia for scans and procedures.
* Organise clinical management of patients, assessing, planning, implementing and initiating changes where required, and collaborate with the anaesthetic team for decision‑making when concerns arise.
* Monitor and evaluate response to sedation through analysis and interpretation of clinical tests and investigations.
