ASSISTANT DRILLER

What you’ll do:
Ground Control Geotechnical Solutions (GCES)
At Ground Control Geotechnical Solutions, we deliver innovative and sustainable geotechnical services that support safe and efficient infrastructure projects. We’re looking for an Assistant Driller to support our drilling teams on site and develop a career in geotechnical drilling.
What you’ll do
1. Support the Lead Driller with geotechnical drilling operations
2. Assist with site preparation, rig set-up, and borehole drilling
3. Handle drilling tools, rods, and consumables
4. Collect and handle soil and rock samples for testing
5. Support installation of monitoring equipment such as piezometers and standpipes
6. Help maintain a safe, clean, and organised site
Key Responsibilities:
7. Assist with the safe operation of drilling rigs and equipment
8. Carry out daily pre-start checks and routine equipment maintenance
9. Follow HSE procedures, RAMS, and site safety rules
10. Attend toolbox talks and site safety briefings
11. Identify and report hazards, defects, or unsafe conditions
12. Support accurate site records, drilling logs, and sample data
What we’re looking for:
Essential
13. Some experience in drilling, construction, or site-based work
14. Good awareness of health & safety and safe working practices
15. Ability to use hand tools and equipment safely
16. Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather
17. Reliable, hardworking, and keen to learn
Desirable
18. NVQ Level 2 in Land Drilling (or willingness to work towards it)
19. Experience on geotechnical or site investigation projects
20. First Aid or other safety-related certifications
21. Plant, forklift, or relevant site tickets
This role offers structured training, NVQ qualifications, and clear progression to Lead Driller and supervisory roles within GCES.
