We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated pharmacy technician to work within our Medicines Information service.
Are you a committed, motivated, and enthusiastic technician with a passion to teach? If so, would you like to join our pharmacy team, based at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, providing trust wide teaching across Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust?
The post will encompass both Medicines Information and Training, working in collaboration with pharmacy colleagues and clinicians whilst expanding the Medicines Information service.
* Manage the training of technicians and pre-registration trainee technicians, senior assistant technical officers, including clinical supervisions of staff.
* Support the training of medicine management roles such as patient medicines reconciliation, patient counselling, ordering of leave medication, accuracy checking of prescriptions and participation in dispensary duties.
* Provide training and support to maximise your potential; the successful candidate will be enrolled onto the next UKMi training Course if not already completed.
* Supply medicines, relevant advice or information to patients or Healthcare staff in a professional manner.
* Assist with the provision of a high quality pharmacy service to patients of the Trust.
* Undertake general management along with HR concerns.
* Support the Senior Managers Group (SMG) to deliver the highest possible professional standards within the department and ensure standards are equitable throughout the Trust.
* Ensure staff understand and implement relevant departmental procedures; ensure all aspects of technical dispensary work are covered by appropriate policies or procedures.
* Ensure technicians, senior assistants and assistants involved in training are competent and appropriately supported to provide a high level of service to patients.
Key results from the job holder
* Provide & develop a Medicines information service to the Trust.
* Mentor and train pre-registration pharmacy technicians.
* Co-ordinate training and ongoing training and education of Medicines Management Technicians.
* Manage, develop and co-ordinate safe and effective training and education packages ensuring they are kept in line with best practice and current professional guidance.
* Ensure all pharmacy technical staff are aware of training and education opportunities.
* Ensure compliance with Medicines Law, CQC requirements and internal audit.
* Ensure compliance with medicines management guidance issued by the Trust, GMMMG or national bodies.
* Ensure Medicines Management Technicians are up to date with training and re-accreditation.
* Work within patient services undertaking medicines optimisation/discharge duties on the wards, improving the quality of care to patients in a clinical area by means of an efficient medicines optimisation system. This will include undertaking medicines reconciliation, assessing patients' own medicines ensuring they are suitable for use in hospital, one-stop dispensing to wards in preparation for patients discharge, maintaining and ordering non-stock medicines for patients and counselling patients on use of their medicines and provide information where required.
* Work in the dispensary, final accuracy checking prescriptions and provide support to the dispensary leads and lead technician in the co-ordination of the day to day running of the dispensary.
* All Pharmacy staff involved in all aspects of the Pharmacy supply chain have a personal responsibility to ensure that all activities undertaken within our hospital Pharmacy are compliant with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and all relevant department procedures are followed effectively.
