About The Role

Are you passionate about re-engaging young people and providing strong pastoral and academic leadership to help them rediscover confidence in learning? We are seeking a committed and experienced Head of Year to join our 14-16 Skills Programme, leading and supporting learners who have become disengaged from mainstream education. This is a key leadership role within a specialist department delivering alternative provision to school aged learners.

As Head of Year, you will have responsibility for the pastoral, behavioural and academic oversight of our cohort, ensuring high expectations around attendance, engagement and progress. You will work closely with teaching staff and a range of internal and external professionals to coordinate support, remove barriers to learning and promote positive outcomes for all learners.

Using a trauma informed, relational and inclusive approach, you will build strong relationships with learners, families and external professionals. You will play a central role in supporting learners to re-engage with education, achieve recognised outcomes, and develop the confidence, resilience and skills needed for sustained participation in education, training or employment.

What You Will Do

* Lead and be accountable for learner attendance, retention, progress, achievement and positive progression outcomes
* Provide effective academic and pastoral leadership, ensuring high expectations, consistency and high-quality provision
* Monitor and track learner progress, coordinating timely interventions and support to maximise outcomes
* Motivate and support learners to re-engage with education, develop confidence and achieve their potential
* Work collaboratively with staff, parents/carers and external agencies to remove barriers and support successful learner journeys.


About You

* You are an experienced and committed practitioner with a strong understanding of supporting young people who have become disengaged from mainstream education
* You have a proven ability to provide effective pastoral and academic leadership, with high expectations for behaviour, attendance and learner progress
* You are skilled at building positive, professional relationships with learners, families, colleagues and external partners
* You use a trauma informed, inclusive and relational approach to remove barriers to learning and promote positive outcomes
* You are organised, reflective and resilient, with a clear commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and continuous improvement.

About Us

The 14+ Academies are made up of the 14+ Apprenticeship Academy and 14+ P-TECH Academy. We are an alternative environment for young people in Years 10 and 11 who require a different education environment to what is offered in a mainstream school. Learners leave their previous education establishment and join the 14+ Academies full time.
