Community based energy adviser (Bradley Stoke, Yate, Filton)

Severn Wye is seeking compassionate and proactive individual s to advocate and support vulnerable people in their homes and the community, helping them overcome barriers to accessing energy services. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a non-judgemental approach.

These essential roles are central to our mission, offering compassionate, practical support to individuals across South Gloucestershire. You'll visit people in their homes, provide advice by phone, and engage with the wider community at local events. Your work will make a meaningful impact—helping individuals navigate energy challenges with empathy, clear guidance, and a deep understanding of the support available.

While our preference is for full-time roles, we are open to flexible working arrangements and will consider reduced hours minimum 22.5hrs per week for the right candidate. Please include your preferred working pattern in your application.

As a Community-based Energy Adviser, you will play a vital role in supporting and advocating for individuals and families—many of whom are vulnerable—helping them resolve energy-related challenges. Working in people’s homes and at community events, you’ll provide practical advice on reducing energy costs, applying to trust funds, managing meter issues, and using smart technology. You’ll guide clients through accessing support, managing debt, and building long-term resilience. While the role can be emotionally demanding, it is deeply rewarding—you’ll empower people with the knowledge and confidence to take control of their energy use, improve their wellbeing, and make a lasting, positive difference. This role will include

Provide empathetic, unbiased, and comprehensive support to clients experiencing difficulties with energy services.

Advocate on behalf of clients with energy suppliers to resolve issues such as billing errors, set up pre-payment plans (non-financial advice), and pursue compensation where appropriate.

Deliver tailored energy advice to households through home visits and phone consultations, helping clients access relevant funding and support schemes.

Build and maintain effective working relationships with local partner organisations to ensure joined-up, consistent support for clients.

Deliver informative talks to partner organisations to enhance their understanding of energy efficiency and available services.

Represent the organisation at community events by running information stalls and engaging with residents .

Accurately record visit details, outcomes, and referrals using the organisation’s CRM system, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.

Prepare and submit written case studies that highlight client outcomes and best practices.

Adhere to all organisational policies, procedures, and safeguarding protocols when delivering services.

Support wider geographical areas as needed

Carry out other reasonable duties as required to support the delivery and development of the service.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

We are looking f or someone with

Experience working with vulnerable individuals or communities.

Experience of community project working, delivery and reporting.

An intuitive and flexible approach to problem solving – able to think on your feet, with the patience and resilience to resolve complex issues.

Experience of partnership working and referral processes.

Strong organisational skills and attention to detail in record-keeping.

Ability to travel within allocated area where public transport options may be limited

Enhanced DBS check (funded)

Desirable attributes, skills and experience include

Ideally based in Gloucestershire or South Gloucestershire

Understanding of energy efficiency and housing-related issues

Experience working with vulnerable individuals, helping them understand complex topics with empathy and care

Good knowledge of local community groups and support services to provide effective signposting when needed

Strong fact-finding and analytical skills, with the ability to present information clearly

Positive, can-do attitude and a collaborative approach to supporting team success

Genuine commitment to improving people’s lives through informed, compassionate support
