The Maintenance Officer undertakes an important role to ensure that our buildings and grounds are maintained to the high standards that our patients and visitors expect and deserve.

The successful candidate will be able to carry out a variety of light maintenance tasks both inside and outside the Hospice. In this role, you will support the Facilities Manager in maintaining and upkeeping our facility, ensuring a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients, families, staff, and visitors.


Main duties of the job


Facilities

* Under the supervision and direction of the Maintenance Officer, be trained to carry out tasks such as:
* Extraction fans/grills vacuuming and damp dusting (weekly on a rolling rota)
* Maintenance of Boiler House, Pump House, Lift Room, Oxygen Store (weekly)
* Cleaning and replacing air conditioning filters
* Dismantling, cleaning, and reassembling en-suite drains (monthly)
* Checking radiators' valves and hoovering (quarterly)
* Testing lift door mechanisms
* Oiling and ensuring working condition of bed wheels
* Chair safety inspections for sturdiness and ID tagging (annual)
* Pat testing electrical items in the building (weekly)
* Routine painting and decorating


Grounds Maintenance

* Under supervision, be trained to:
* Maintain tidiness around both buildings (weekly)
* Perform general building maintenance
* Check and maintain outdoor furniture

Facilities

* Assist with tasks such as vacuuming fans/grills, maintaining toilets, changing rooms, larders, and domestic rooms.
* Maintain boiler house, pump house, lift room, oxygen store weekly, ensuring tidiness, lighting, and lock functionality.
* Replace air conditioning filters monthly.
* Maintain en-suite drains monthly and radiators quarterly.
* Test lift doors weekly, oil bed wheels weekly, and perform pat testing weekly.
* Routine painting and decorating.


Grounds Maintenance

* Maintain tidiness, clear litter/leaves, assist with gardening, weed, water plants, and check outdoor furniture as needed.


Person Specification


Experience

* Willingness to learn basic maintenance tasks.
* Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
* Good communication and organizational skills.
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and adapt.
* Commitment to confidentiality and collective responsibility.
* Excellent timekeeping and dedication.
