Semi-Skilled Engineer / Machine Technician
Location: Glasgow (Queenslie Industrial Estate) • Salary: £31,700 (rising after successful integration) • Shift: 7am - 7pm / 7pm - 7am 4 on 4 off D&A or 4 on 4 off Perm Nights
A great opportunity has become available for a Semi-Skilled Engineer / Machine Technician to join a high-volume, fast-paced manufacturing site within a leading UK food production business. This is an ideal role for someone with machine setting or operator experience who is looking to step into engineering and develop into a fully multi-skilled maintenance engineer over time. Working within a high-care, high-speed packaging environment, you will play a key role in supporting production efficiency, minimising downtime, and assisting the engineering team with day-to-day maintenance activities.
Responsibilities
* Setting up and adjusting machinery for production runs
* Carrying out basic fault finding and first-line maintenance
* Supporting engineers with breakdowns and planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
* Ensuring minimal downtime through quick, practical intervention
* Working closely with production teams to keep lines running efficiently
Non-Negotiable Requirements
* Experience working within a manufacturing or production environment
* Exposure to machine setting, operation, or frontline maintenance
* Hands‑on experience supporting fast‑paced production environments
Requirements
* Strong mechanical understanding (electrical exposure beneficial)
* Confidence working on production or packaging machinery
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
* Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop
Desirable Requirements
* Previous experience as a Machine Setter, Operator, or Semi-Skilled Engineer
* Experience within FMCG or food manufacturing environments
* Interest in progressing into a fully qualified Maintenance Engineer role
