We are seeking to make an interim appointment on a fixed-term contract for three months initially to provide cover in this key role. The appointment may be extended if agreed.
This is a key post reporting directly to the Chief Executive and being a member of the Executive Team. The role involves working closely with the Chair, Board members, the Council of Governors, the Executive Team, and other senior colleagues internally and externally.
The North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT) was established on 1 November 2024, following the merger of the Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust and the Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust. We anticipate further growth with the proposed acquisition of Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust from 1 April 2026.
We are looking to appoint an experienced senior governance professional, supported by an Assistant Director of Corporate Governance and a team of four governance staff.
Main Duties
The post holder will lead the development of the governance framework for the new organisation, supporting the Chair and Chief Executive with expert advice on NHS Foundation Trust governance requirements, ensuring full compliance with organisational accountabilities.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Graduate level education, preferably supported by a Master’s degree or equivalent, with a management/business or professional qualification (essential)
* Membership of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (desirable)
Experience
* Senior-level experience in an NHS provider organization
* Experience providing strategic assurance and leadership at Board level
* Experience working with regulators, boards, governors, and stakeholders
* Experience in NHS Foundation Trusts and understanding of their requirements
Skills
* Ability to build relationships internally and externally
* Experience engaging at senior levels including with Board members
* Political sensitivity and stakeholder management skills
* Ability to communicate complex information effectively
