The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.

It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.

It is a very exciting time in regards to the technological advancements, exploitation and visualisation of data. In this role you will be at the forefront of advancing the identification, exploitation of data to enable other members of the department to provide insights from complex data holdings to enable data informed decision making at all levels and departments of the organisation. You will be part of a critcal team of specilaists and work alongside professionals in data engineering, pipelines, flows and visualisation. You will have a close working relationship with force leads in Performance and Research which are vital aspects of the department. The post holder will be able to utilise skills in Microsoft Fabric, ETL skills, Python and coding to enable to the exploitation and access of data.

Provide guidance to Business Intelligence Developers and Strategic Insights Analysts, including IT Technicians and Senior Technicians, in the design and development of solutions, to ensure service delivery that is compliant with ICT formal processes and controls.

Work with a range of stakeholders to identify how to meet their needs, representing Corporate Development as an expert advisor, in to order to deliver improved processes and systems.

Liaise with colleagues across other technical areas to understand the risks and technical requirements in their area, in order to develop and deliver integrated solutions.

Liaison with Information Security to ensure appropriate measures are in place, systems and practices adhere to required protocols and policies and procedures meet required standards.

Support the development of colleagues through the provision of technical direction, coaching, and information sharing to contribute to the organisational knowledge base.

Undertake complex maintenance, support, and change work that has been escalated from the team to contribute to the delivery of an effective and responsive ICT service.

Monitor the provision of support and service for key systems by technical colleagues within their specialism, for example ensuring routine maintenance is undertaken, in order to provide reliable and consistent service to operational policing.


Skills & Experience

Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, for example by monitoring trends and incidents, in order to reduce recurrences of problems and to deliver a consistent and reliable service to the Force.

Undertake additional work/assignments as may be assigned by supervisors and management from time to time in order to support and enhance the smooth operation of the ICT department and its areas of responsibility.

Engage in regular contact with senior business leaders and stakeholders to understand their business operating needs and the support the need to drive improvements in their service areas.

Employ effective negotiating and influencing skills to manage expectations and influence the overall strategic landscape, whilst ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, the strategic roadmap and the change delivery principles of the organisation.

Negotiate with, and facilitate the formation of effective strategic partnerships with, our police collaboration partners (primarily Sussex Police but also SE forces of Hampshire and Thames Valley) and partner external organisations (health, local authorities, academia, private sector) where relevant to propagate new projects or information sharing that will drive collective improvements in service for the public in Surrey.

Work closely with peers within Surrey Police (and where relevant Sussex Police) working within related areas where data acquisition, management and insight are core aspects of the role, to achieve best value and impact. This includes areas such as Intelligence, Information Management and DDaT.

Educated to degree Level or equivalent experience

Proficiency in a wide range of technologies, technical tools, analytical and problem solving approaches.

Significant experience and understanding of the theoretical concepts underpinning their specialism in order to provide technical oversight to technical staff.

Excellent communication skills with experience of engaging stakeholders and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.

Proficiency in coaching and supporting others in order to develop the technical capability of the team.

A high level of personal resilience and self-motivation.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills with excellent attention to detail.

It is desirable that the postholder has/is:

Detailed knowledge of Police regulations, standards, structures, services and ICT systems/processes/platforms.
