Job Overview
Part Time Band 3 Health Care Assistant to join the nursing team on the Children’s Unit.
The Children’s Unit has 19 inpatient beds, including 1 High Dependency bed and 3 Enhanced Care beds. It also includes 6 Assessment unit beds, 6 medical/surgical day case beds and 2 Oncology beds.
Main Duties of the Job
Provide evidence-based, high‑quality clinical care, support registered nurses and other practitioners, and deliver delegated care to patients. Work independently and as part of a team, supervise patients, assist with induction of junior healthcare assistants, and deliver health and social care elements as locally assessed.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* QCF Level 3 or equivalent qualifications/experience.
* NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care related subjects or equivalent.
* Good knowledge of anatomy & physiology.
* Experience working as a HCSW without direct supervision in a clinical setting, managed by a qualified practitioner.
* Understanding of risk assessment and management.
* Ability to provide wound care using aseptic technique, ANTT, phlebotomy and basic observations.
* Clear and accurate communication.
* Adaptability to new and changing circumstances.
* Ability to work alone under supervision and seek clinical advice when needed.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Independent work within professional boundaries.
* Good decision‑making skills.
* Standard keyboard skills required for ward environment.
* Approach any problem calmly and professionally.
* Commitment to continuous improvement of patient care.
* Flexibility to work unsociable hours.
* Autonomous initiative without direct supervision.
* Ability to cover flexible hours within the department.
Desirable Criteria
* All Wales HCSW induction framework.
* Ability to record vital signs (BP, pulse, temp, respirations, blood sugar), venepuncture, routine ECG recording and urine testing.
* Other specific clinical skills at this level pertinent to the role.
