A vacancy has arisen for a Squadron Leader (Any Profession) to serve as Director of Music RAuxAF Band at RAF Cranwell on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of not before 01 July 2026. In accordance with AP3392 Vol 7 Part 2 Chap 6 the post is also open for applicants to apply on alternative TCoS, including ADC (180), PTVR or VeRR. Applicants are requested to make their TCoS preference clear in their application covering letter, for review during the selection process. Applicants for alternative TCoS should state how the role could be delivered on their preferred TCoS, for consideration by the selection board. The Sqn Cdr’s role is to lead the Sqn to deliver the outputs required by its mission statement, augmenting the RAF both in the UK and overseas. This is a broad remit but will include responsibility for training, safety, policy governance of all Sqn activity, effective preparation and utility of reserves, retention of PTVRs, engagement with employers and other stakeholders and delivery of targets set in CONEMP, management Plans and higher-level directives. The successful applicant will be responsible for all leadership and management for The Band of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force. The successful applicant will be responsible for: Through an exec team, managing the establishment of PTVR musicians. Liaising with appropriate Service units to manage all General Service training requirements. Liaising with the Central Reserves Support Wing to facilitate the recruitment selection process. The efficient functional control of the Band of the RAuxAF. The fulfilment of all musical engagements allocated to the Band. The turnout, appearance and standards of the musicians. The maintenance and further improvement of musical output in keeping with the professional reputation of Royal Air Force Music Services. The training and instruction of musicians, together with organising rehearsals and music programme preparation. Liaising with Headquarters Music Services for all matters relating to music, policy, bands and their functions. The writing and arranging of music as necessary. Ensuring that all infrastructure requirements are maintained.
