Organisation Context
Vale of Clwyd Mind Association is a values-led mental health charity supporting people across Denbighshire to improve their mental health and wellbeing. The organisation delivers a range of community-based support services, groups and educational programmes, working in partnership with local communities and stakeholders to reduce isolation and promote recovery.
Purpose of the Role
The Mental Health Support Worker will support people experiencing short- and long-term mental health challenges by assisting in the delivery of community support groups and small educational group sessions across Denbighshire. Working closely with the Senior Support Worker, Services Manager and Practitioners, the postholder will help create safe, inclusive and supportive environments that enable individuals to build confidence, skills and resilience on their recovery journey.
Key Responsibilities
Support Group Delivery
* Support the delivery of Vale of Clwyd Mind support groups across North and Central Denbighshire.
* Assist members to identify strengths, set goals and work towards personal outcomes.
* Support a range of group-based activities, including creative therapies, cooking, gardening projects and music-based sessions.
* Encourage participation, peer support and positive group dynamics.
* Support new members to access other activities and services across the organisation.
* Help plan, organise and maintain the monthly programme of group activities.
* Provide a safe, friendly and non-judgemental environment that reduces social isolation.
Educational Group Support
* Support a Practitioner in the delivery of small educational group sessions in Central and South Denbighshire.
* Assist with session preparation, facilitation and participant engagement.
* Provide practical and emotional support to individuals during sessions.
* Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports recovery and wellbeing.
Community Engagement
* Work across a range of community settings to ensure services run smoothly.
* Identify and link members with relevant community initiatives, training, volunteering and peer-support opportunities.
* Attend community events where Vale of Clwyd Mind Association has a presence.
* Explore and support opportunities for intergenerational peer support.
Teamwork and Service Continuity
* Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers across the organisation.
* Provide cover for other staff and volunteers when required to ensure continuity of services.
Administration and Reporting
* Maintain accurate and appropriate records for individuals and groups.
* Assist with the preparation of regular reports, updates and information.
* Support internal financial recording and monthly reporting requirements.
* Assist with the general administration and day-to-day running of services.
* Monitor and evaluate activities to support reporting and service development.
* Work in line with Vale of Clwyd Mind Association's policies, procedures and values.
* Undertake training as required to carry out the role effectively.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the role.
Person Specification
Essential
* Good general standard of education.
* Ability to complete written reports, monitoring records and evaluations.
* Ability to maintain basic financial records.
* Caring, flexible and dynamic approach with a commitment to equality and diversity.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Understanding and experience of mental health issues and other disabilities affecting wellbeing.
* Awareness of rural community issues.
* Strong communication skills and ability to encourage participation.
* Confidence in managing sensitive or challenging conversations and supporting distressed individuals.
* Basic understanding of health and safety and risk assessment.
* Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, record-keeping and report writing.
* Full, clean driving licence and access to own vehicle.
Desirable
* Qualification in Health and Social Care or a related subject.
* Direct or indirect experience of mental health services.
* Experience working with socially excluded or marginalised groups.
* Experience supporting or facilitating group activities.
* Welsh language skills.

Additional Information
* The role will include some evening and/or weekend work.
* Appointment is subject to an Enhanced DBS check, Occupational Health clearance, and satisfactory references.
* Use of a personal vehicle is required.
