Our Mission

At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), 'zero emissions' aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.

We won't realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed; instead, we want to 'redefine' aerospace best practices.

We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.

What To Expect

As an Experienced Electrical Technician, you will join our Test Team and play a crucial role in bringing our innovative aircraft designs to life. Your expertise will be essential in designing, building, commissioning and deploying test rigs that support the development of our current and future aircraft designs.

A typical day could involve building or modifying sub-assemblies and test rigs, applying instrumentation to aircraft components, or conducting fault-finding in electrical systems using a broad range of diagnostic tools. You'll work with everything from full technical drawings to high-level requirements, finding effective solutions whilst maintaining the highest quality and safety standards.

What You'll Do

* Support the design of test rigs by bringing your practical experience and knowledge of regulations to the table at an early stage.
* Build or modify sub-assemblies, test rigs and full aircraft systems including SELV and hazardous voltage electrical systems and mechanical parts, working with a range of instructions from full technical drawings through to high-level requirements.
* Apply instrumentation to test rigs and aircraft components, with specialist training provided as necessary.
* Commission and conduct pass-off tests of electrical systems for test rigs to applicable standards.
* Conduct fault-finding in electrical systems and harnesses using a broad range of diagnostic tools independently or with engineering support as appropriate.
* Conduct or support electrical maintenance on site and on VA test assets at external test facilities as and when required.
* Ensure all appropriate documentation is completed and maintained, including job cards, tech logs, tech library, and ERP system entries.
* Manage the day-to-day electrical tools, instrumentation and consumable stocks.
* Maintain a high standard of tool cleanliness and control throughout workshop assembly areas, labs and machine rooms, maintaining exemplary Foreign Object Debris prevention.
* Play a pivotal role, in conjunction with the Health and Safety team, in ensuring electrical safety across the site.

What You'll Bring

* A robust understanding of the first principles of electrical safety and working familiarity with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
* Excellent electrical cabinet wiring/building skills and broad proficiency with appropriate hand tools and power tools.
* Experience and broad understanding of electrical safety testing, for example PAT testing, electrical installation testing or fixed-appliance testing.
* A working knowledge of the 18th Edition BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 IET Wiring Regulations.
* Experience working with UK mains installations and good working knowledge of electrical schematics and technical assembly drawings.
* Very good attention to detail and the temperament to operate to challenging deadlines without compromising standards or quality.
* Ability to work autonomously and safely, with flexibility to travel between Kemble facility and other VA sites and external test locations.
* Problem solving and component sourcing capability to select and source appropriate components for minor modifications to existing rigs.
* Good IT skills, including ability to produce spreadsheets.
* Willingness to undertake First Aid and Fire Marshall training.

Desired

* Experience of working to EN 60204.
* Experience working with hazardous voltage DC equipment (60 – 1000 VDC) and cabling.
* HNC or higher in a relevant discipline.
* Full UK driving license (candidates must be mindful of the limited public transport options available to Kemble).
