Plant Operator | Green Hydrogen
Location: West Midlands
Working Pattern: Shift-based, on-site
Employment Type: Permanent
An industrial energy project at the forefront of the UK’s hydrogen transition is seeking a Plant Operator to support live operations at a first-of-a-kind green hydrogen production site.
This is a hands-on role in a safety-critical, regulated environment, ideal for operators who enjoy being close to the plant, systems, and processes rather than desk-based work.
You will be part of a small operational team responsible for the safe, reliable running of hydrogen production equipment during ramp-up and steady-state operations.
What you will be doing
* Operating a green hydrogen production facility on a shift basis
* Monitoring plant performance via SCADA and control systems
* Executing start-up, shutdown, and normal operating procedures
* Performing first-line fault finding and responding to alarms
* Supporting planned and reactive maintenance activities
* Working closely with engineers, contractors, and site leadership
* Following permit-to-work, isolation, and safety procedures at all times
* Maintaining accurate operational logs and shift handovers
What we are looking for
* Experience as a plant operator, process operator, or operations technician
* Background in industrial environments such as chemicals, energy, utilities, EfW, oil & gas, or manufacturing
* Comfortable working in safety-critical or hazardous process environments
* Familiarity with control rooms, SCADA, and operating procedures
* Strong safety mindset and disciplined approach to compliance
* Willingness to work shifts, including nights or weekends if required
Why this role
* Exposure to a first-of-a-kind green hydrogen facility
* Long-term role within a growing energy transition project
* High responsibility, visible impact, and strong technical learning curve
* Opportunity to build early hydrogen operations experience
Hydrogen experience is not required. Candidates from adjacent process industries are strongly encouraged to apply.
