Job Description:
In conjunction with the Consultant Intensivist and other attending consultants, the Critical Care RMO assumes responsibility for the care of patients in the Critical Care Unit. The CCRMO provides continuous vigilance, early intervention, and ongoing care with the goal to decrease ICU-related morbidity and mortality. Additionally, the CCRMO proactively communicates with team members to ensure optimal outcomes.
The role involves clinical patient management, including:
1. Examine and evaluate each patient upon admission to critical care, notify the admitting physician, and provide assessment and recommendations.
2. Perform daily evaluations of all patients, document findings in the medical record, and coordinate treatment plans with the team.
3. Participate in ward rounds with the Consultant Intensivist and Matron.
4. Diagnose and stabilize critically ill patients with organ failure or disturbances.
5. Manage mechanical ventilation and perform diagnostic procedures like arterial and central venous lines.
6. Act as ICU team leader when appropriate, enhancing the skills of ICU staff.
7. Use monitoring data to titrate therapy and respond to alarms.
8. Participate in quality and safety monitoring of patient care.
9. Initiate and supervise advanced cardiac life support during cardiac arrests.
10. Assist in the assessment and transfer of deteriorating ward patients under supervision.
Skill Requirements
Qualifications
* MB ChB or equivalent & GMC registration with license to practice
* Completion of Foundation training plus two years in acute specialties including anesthetics and critical care, with NHS experience
* Ability to stabilize deteriorating patients, including intubation and organ support initiation
* ALS or equivalent life support certification
* Evidence of continuous professional development
* Strong communication skills, teamwork, sensitivity, punctuality, professionalism, and alignment with GMC and Spire Healthcare standards
Desirable qualifications
* Primary FRCA or higher qualification
* Completion of Stage 1 Critical Care training
* Experience in senior on-call roles in UK hospitals
* Audit cycle completion and research publications
* Additional qualifications, prizes, and memberships
* Skills in lung ultrasound and focused echocardiography
