Specialist Mental Health Therapist - STARS
We are recruiting for a part-time Specialist Mental Health Therapist in the STARS service within Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Overview
To be responsible for providing high quality therapeutic support and advice to children and young people, parents and families who present with a range of mental health and emotional needs in relation to the child\'s experience of sexual trauma.
Responsibilities
* Deliver therapeutic support and advice to children, young people and families affected by sexual trauma.
* Undertake high quality direct (assessment and therapy) and indirect (consultative, advisory and evaluative) specialist support in relation to children, young people and families referred to STARS.
* Offer therapeutic sessions to a child or young person on a group, family or individual basis, including pre-trial support, and review progress regularly. This can include evening groups for young people.
* Provide support and advice to the carers of children and young people affected by sexual trauma (individual, group or family work).
* Undertake ongoing evaluation of the outcomes of the interventions provided.
* Be committed to providing a high quality, child-focused service for children and young people affected by sexual trauma, respecting the wishes of the child or young person.
Qualifications
Essential
* A relevant professional registration in Nursing, Social Work, Psychotherapy, Arts therapy (NMC, SWE, UKCP, HCPC or equivalent).
* Current UK professional registration.
Desirable
* Further post-registration training in child and adolescent mental health (e.g., systemic family therapy, play, art or drama therapy, group work).
Experience
Essential
* Minimum of 3 years\' post qualifying experience of working with young people with mental health needs.
* Knowledge of the effects of abuse on children and young people and their families, and the dynamics of abusive behaviour.
* Experience of direct work with children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse/sexual trauma.
* Experience and knowledge of child safeguarding.
* Experience of working with other agencies (e.g., Social Services and Education) and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Desirable
* Experience of working with primary health care professionals.
* Knowledge of relevant mental health and children\'s legislation.
* Knowledge of national training initiatives and priorities in respect of young people and mental health.

* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required; post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
* UK registration: Applicants must have current UK professional registration.
* Employer: Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Location: Mindworks Specialist Services, STARS and New Leaf, Ramsay House, West Park, Richmond Crescent, Epsom, KT19 8PH.
* Pay: Band 7, £50,008 to £56,908 per year (incl. 5% Fringe HCAS, pro rata).
