Applications are now invited for individuals to join the Scottish Ambulance Service as a Qualified or Trainee Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) at the following stations in the North Region:
* Aberdeen
* Elgin
* Fraserburgh
* Inverurie
* Peterhead
* Aviemore
* Dingwall
* Golspie
* Inverness
* Wick
* Lerwick
The expected start date for successful trainee applicants is November 2025. For qualified applicants, the start date will depend on previous experience and will be agreed upon at the time of offer.
The Role
As an ACA, you will deliver high-quality care and safe transportation for non-emergency patients from their homes to hospital and clinic appointments. This role involves various shift times over 7 days and may require working at stations other than your base station. The posts are a mix of part-time and full-time positions.
You must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be a team player, and able to handle a range of people, often at their most vulnerable. This is a vital role within the Service, providing essential services to the people of Scotland.
The Training
If you are a Trainee, you will be an employee from your start date and enrolled in our bespoke clinical and driving program, which lasts approximately 6 months. The first four weeks will be at one of the Service’s Regional Training Centres, after which you will move to your allocated Ambulance Station.
Requirements for Qualified ACAs
Requirements depend on previous experience.
The Person
This role is varied, with each day and patient presenting different challenges. You need excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication, flexibility, and the ability to make safe decisions. Previous healthcare experience or related qualifications are advantageous. Volunteer work or community involvement is also beneficial.
Minimum entry requirements include:
* Evidence of successful study at SCQF Level 4 or above in Maths and English.
* Full UK driving license with no more than 4 penalty points.
Candidates must possess C1 on their driving license at least 6 weeks before the course start date. Shortlisted candidates will need to bring original and copy documents to their fitness test/interview.

The starting salary for Trainee Care Assistants is £21,748 per annum, increasing to £26,869 after training, with increments up to £28,998.
Interview and fitness test dates are scheduled at various stations in June and July 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be notified accordingly.
