The post holder will be part of a team that provides 24-hour security cover, delivering a high-profile visible service and effective protection for patients, visitors, staff and property across the University Hospitals of Leicester.
Responsibilities
* Provide continuous 24‑hour security cover and a high‑profile presence throughout all hospital areas.
* Protect UHL property against theft and vandalism and secure all buildings on site.
* Record all security incidents and complete documentation using computer and/or written records.
* Deliver consistently high standards of customer service within the security service.
* Communicate extensively with patients, visitors and staff, giving directions and receiving instructions.
* Respond to challenging or traumatic security incidents.
* Monitor CCTV in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and UHL policy.
* Arming and disarming intruder alarms; monitoring and reporting critical and medical alarms; alerting relevant staff to emergency situations.
* Lead fire‑alarm procedures as required.
* Deal directly with individuals disclosing complex, sensitive and contentious information, remaining empathetic and motivating a positive outcome.
* Use multiple facts to make the most appropriate judgement when barriers to communication exist.
* Provide a first‑line quick response to distressed, violent and aggressive persons, including mental‑health patients.
* Use verbal and non‑verbal communication skills to calm individuals, physically restrain when necessary and escort persons from the site to maintain a safe environment.
* Detain patients against their will at the of clinical personnel when appropriate from a legal and patient‑safety perspective.
* Employ physical effort and adapt quickly between enforcement and empathy to resolve incidents.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Full‑time Healthcare Security Officer role.
* Experience or qualifications in Security or Healthcare.
* Ability to work 12‑hour shift patterns covering days and nights across Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital and Glenfield Hospital.
* Full training will be provided.
* Caring nature with the ability to manage altered behaviours and de‑escalate agitated individuals.
* Knowledge of Data Protection Act 1998 and relevant UHL policy on CCTV monitoring.
* Discretion to conduct a Disclosure & Barring Service check (Pay is deducted over three months).
* Willingness to comply with COVID‑19 risk assessments and vaccination recommendations.
