This position will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation and continuous improvement of Health & Safety programs, and maintaining all State and Federal environmental programs and report requirements. The Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist reports directly to the local Plant Manager and functionally to the Director of Health, Safety & Environmental. This is an on-the-floor, high-visibility role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Implement safe working techniques and reinforce safety policies, guidelines and procedures as set out by IKO and regulatory agencies. Provide daily guidance in EHS programs.
* Collaborate across levels; build and maintain relationships; communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
* Coach peers, salaried and hourly employees on expected safety behaviors to attain a goal of zero incidents.
* Advise, assist, and audit line management to ensure EH&S policies are implemented and functioning as intended.
* Identify, evaluate and implement solutions to hazardous conditions and practices.
* Investigate potential losses; assess risk; develop and implement corrective plans; lead audits with Corporate H&S, Environmental, and Loss Prevention.
* Prepare and maintain plant environmental and regulator records; ensure timely reporting for Plant Manager review and signature.
* Inform Plant Manager immediately of regulatory compliance issues.
* Collaborate with Plant and Process Engineers to identify and track engineered safety solutions.
* Provide hands-on guidance on incident reporting/investigation; ensure adherence to company standards.
* Review incidents for root cause analysis and drive corrective actions through health checks.
* Evaluate, monitor and approve safe installation or modification of equipment; apply FLRA and JHA/JSA.
* Apply hierarchy of controls to eliminate hazards and reduce risks.
* Administer hazard control programs for respective plants.
* Lead coordination of regulatory inspections, address deficiencies, and present findings to Plant Manager.
* Maintain logs and documentation for regulatory requirements.
* Monitor legislative changes and assess impact on the business.
* Support SOPs, JHA/JSA, training calendar and training records per regulatory requirements.
* Conduct employee safety training and safety evaluations; run site safety committees and ergonomics programs.
* Maintain relationships with Regulatory Agencies and participate in industry organizations.
* Administer local hearing conservation program and HIPAA Privacy Rule compliance.
* Collaborate to ensure monthly safety inspections are completed on time and address deficiencies.
* Provide internal support for Workers’ Compensation cases and HIPAA compliance in collaboration with Human Resources.
* Conduct new hire safety onboarding for new employees.
* Maintain metrics in accordance with company requirements.
Education and Experience
* Minimum BA/BS degree in occupational safety, science, engineering or related discipline
* Three to five years of experience in a manufacturing setting in a Health, Safety & Environmental role
* Professional EHS certification desired
Skills and Competencies
* 5+ years of HSE leadership experience in manufacturing

* Knowledge of US occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations
* Understanding of hazard & risk assessment, behavior-based safety, machine/equipment safety
