We are seeking an experienced Validation Engineer – Protection and Control to join our team on a 6-month contract based in Stafford. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with protection and control systems, particularly in the testing of distance protection schemes and related equipment. This role is critical for ensuring the performance and reliability of embedded systems within electrical grid infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct testing of distance protection systems for electrical grid components, potentially in virtualized or simulated environments.
* Utilize automated testing tools to validate the stability and reliability of protection schemes.
* Perform validation and testing using Omicron CMC2/356 equipment to commission and maintain protection relays.
* Support testing activities aligned with the IEC61850 communication standard (if applicable).
* Document test results and troubleshoot issues as needed.
* Collaborate closely with engineering teams to support validation of protection and control firmware/systems.
Skills & Experience Requirements:
* Strong experience in distance protection testing and relay systems.
* Hands-on experience with Omicron CMC2/356 test sets – essential.
* Experience with IEC61850 is a plus (nice to have).
* Minimum 5+ years of experience in embedded firmware testing, particularly in protection and control systems.
* Previous experience as a Commissioning Engineer is highly preferred.
* Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
* Strong communication abilities and a collaborative mindset.
* Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
