Offer description

It’s a fantastic time to work for the Environment Agency as we step forward to tackle the climate emergency. Do you want to help make England a better place to live and work in?

Overview

As a member of the FCRM Improvements Portfolio team, you will support the Portfolio Management Office and sub-portfolio project and programme work delivering over £150m of improvements in the next three years. You’ll help inform the changes we are delivering to enable outcomes that protect communities and businesses from flooding. Our Improvements Portfolio is a professional portfolio, programme and project management service in the Flood & Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) directorate, driving innovation and continuous improvements across FCRM and Incident Management and contributing to corporate and FCRM strategies and delivery plans.

This role involves starting up and informing new projects, helping ensure live projects run smoothly, supporting project managers, building relationships with the Portfolio Management Office, and improving and embedding portfolio management and data practices. It is a great opportunity for someone with data analytics and/or project management skills who wants experience at programme/portfolio level.

This role is not eligible for Skilled visa sponsorship.

Responding to incidents is a central and important part of our work. You will be required to have an incident role (usually virtual) and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and will include full training. Alternative working arrangements and full support are available to enable you in your incident role.

Team and scope

We are a professional portfolio, programme and project management service provided by the FCRM directorate for the benefit of the FCRM business across National and Area teams. We are part of the Innovation & Continuous Improvement. This role supports innovative improvement projects contributing to the National Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy, Asset Management Strategy and Mapping, Modelling and Data Plans.

Experience/skills required

We are looking for someone who is motivated, passionate, and has:

* Formal project / programme management experience (essential).
* Highly numerate with strong data gathering, manipulation and interpretation skills; able to work with large datasets and multiple users. Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI / Tableau (or similar) desirable.
* Experience in a project support role in a complex organisation using Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
* Administrative and organisational skills, supporting regular meetings, agenda setting and minutes for Portfolio governance cycles.
* Financial data management and project planning skills desirable.
* Ability to gain credibility, respect and cooperation across the business by demonstrating appropriate collaborative behaviours.
* Experience in tackling and automating routine issues with a continuous improvement and problem-solving mindset.
* Ability to work with uncertainty and find innovative solutions to problems.

Important notes Please note, this role does NOT qualify for sponsorship. If you are applying from outside the UK, you should contact UK Visas and Immigration or visit gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration. Applications from those wanting full, shared or part-time working arrangements are welcome. There is good opportunity for blended home and office working. Our team is dispersed across the country and you can be based at one of our Environment Agency offices (subject to Facilities approval). Some travel and overnight stays will be required. We value a diverse workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community. If you have questions, please contact Arifur Rahman, Portfolio Delivery Manager, arifur.rahman@environment-agency.gov.uk.
