About the role
Balfour Beatty are looking for a Project Design Controls Manager to join their Power T&D business in Scotland.
Role Purpose
Monitoring design package status for approval, procurement or construction, and ensuring compliance with the scheduled work tasks, contract requirements, and programmed plan. Tracking and highlighting Change, as well as implementing the impact assessments, risk reductions and implementation of agreements. The Project Design Controls Manager reports to the Technical Director and works with the Engineering Managers, Commercial team and Suppliers. They will be accountable for defining and reporting on design team personnel and the organisation\'s progress in accordance with the requirements of the Design and Engineering Management Plan, and assisting the EM’s (Design Delivery) in monitoring the provision of assured design.
What you\'ll be doing
The Project Design Controls Manager reports to the Technical Director and works with the Engineering Managers, Commercial team and Suppliers. DCM will be accountable to define and report on design team personnel and organisations progress in accordance with the requirements of the Design and Engineering Management Plan, assisting the EM’s (Design Delivery) in monitoring the provision of assured design. Overseeing the work of a planner, in addition to normal progress monitoring and reporting, they will provide the SEM (DC) with input and cost-linked measurement data to enable the SEM (DC) to produce detailed design progress based on earned value and end cost/time to complete forecasts. Capture and integrate current and forecast programme, budget, cost, and risk at asset and sub-asset level. Ensure that visual performance metrics are set up to assist the Project Team to timely deliver projects and improve performance. Effectively using IT and systems as a key enabler for gathering and timely and accurate reporting on project performance.
Who we\'re looking for
The following qualities and/or experience are desirable:
* Appetite for contributing to management of project by operation of Design & Engineering Management Plan (managing staff to carry out requirements, maintaining registers and key schedules)
* Willingness to understand the events that initiate, and the methods used to demonstrate, delay or change entitlement
* Good time management skills and dependable provision of routine reporting
Experience of :-
* measuring progress and reporting against Gantt charts & P6 programmes.
* managing (construction) works >£25 million per year
* managing subcontractors or suppliers – chairing progress meetings, certifying stage/monthly payments, delay recovery
* construction or manufacturing in ISO9001 QA environment, working in accordance with Project Execution Plan, Construction Phase Plan or accredited Quality System
* planning & project control services within large complex environments within the construction and engineering industry
* CDM 2015 (& 2017) requirements, roles, responsibilities
* risk and opportunity management
* NEC3 contract documents
* Management experience in this role is directly relevant to those seeking APM and Prince qualifications
* This is an office-based post with daily interaction with peers – requiring some presence on project site for meetings and workshops on occasional basis.
