Sawley Junior School is looking to appoint an ambitious school leader to take on the role of Head of School from 1st September 2024. This role has been created to support a smooth one year transition for school leadership following the announcement of the current Headteacher to retire at the end of the 2024/25 academic year.
The Head of School appointment is created with the intention for the successful candidate to work alongside the current, highly effective Headteacher for one year then to move to the Headteacher role within the school from 1st September 2025. This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual looking to be fully supported in taking that next career step.

There are currently 325 children on roll with an age range of 7-11. Situated on the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire border, the school is set in large, well equipped grounds which also includes a swimming pool. The school shares the site with Sawley Infant & Nursery School allowing the two phases to work closely together for the benefit of our children.

• Is willing to learn and develop their leadership alongside the existing Headteacher
• Demonstrates a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
• Can demonstrate resilience, determination, imagination and commitment to sustain school improvement
• Has capacity to recognise and build on the successes of the school and formulate a vision for innovation and improvement
• Has a clear educational philosophy and the ability to build on the exciting curriculum and wider curriculum opportunities afforded to our children
• Has a track record of raising or maintaining high educational standards and expectations
• Has experience of developing, implementing and managing effective whole or phase school systems
• Has experience of successfully leading change and inspiring others
• Has pupils at the heart of decision making
• Has the ability to improve teaching and learning through the systematic development of teaching staff
• Has the ability to skillfully use data to analyse, monitor, challenge and support
• Has a passion for learning and willingness to apply this strategically to their thinking
• Has the ability, desire and dedication to maintain and strengthen links with Parents, Governors and the wider community
