Job Overview
This is a Permanent/48-month Fixed-Term training post (37.5 hrs per week), paid under Apprenticeship guidelines. On successful completion of the programme you will become a Medical Engineer Entry Level (Band 4). This apprenticeship is supported by an accompanying assessment and skills‑development programme that combines workplace training, formal on‑ and off‑the‑job training and the opportunity to practise new skills in a real work environment.

Main Duties
* An approved Level 4 qualification in Engineering
* Level 4 Medical Engineering Apprentice
* Member of a multidisciplinary team of Medical Engineers, responsible for commissioning, maintenance and repair of medical equipment such as patient monitors, therapy and diagnostic equipment.
* High standard of self‑discipline and attitude to work, recognising the nature of the equipment and its location.
* liaise with other healthcare professionals, clients and external organisations to resolve any issues.
* Work unsupervised for long periods, with advice available.
* Plan own workload and carry out acceptance and safety testing of new equipment, repairs and planned preventative maintenance.
* Calibrate medical equipment using expensive test equipment.
* Competent in the use of precision and fine tools.
* Maintain and repair equipment subject to contamination by hazardous substances or body fluids.
* Consider cost implications when carrying out repairs and planned preventative maintenance.
* Attend all wards and departments on a regular basis to perform maintenance and, where necessary, unplanned repairs.
* Move heavy medical equipment (e.g., theatre tables, microscopes) when carrying out repairs or PPM.
* Undertake duties of other staff as necessary.
* Observe guidelines and regulations regarding the safe use of expensive test equipment and tools.
* Work in areas where the Trust provides medical equipment support services.
Apprenticeship Qualification
During the apprenticeship you will receive a Level 4 qualification in Engineering and a Level 4 Medical Engineering Apprentice qualification.
