About this opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for you to join Westmorland and Furness Council as a Regulatory Services Officer within our Public Protection Service. You will be focusing on supporting the work of the Commercial Protection Team.
In this role you will help us to keep our communities safe through supporting officers by carrying out sampling activities, appropriate inspections of local businesses and residential premises to ensure compliance with public protection legislation, and where appropriate investigating criminal and civil offences with a view to reporting for formal legal action. The Commercial Protection Team carry out a wide range of regulatory activities including health protection, infection control, health and safety at work, food safety and integrity, animal welfare and port health.
You'll be joining a dedicated and experienced team where you will be managing your own caseload of proactive and reactive inspections, complaint investigations and service requests. Working in Public Protection at Westmorland and Furness Council is both varied and challenging; no two days are the same.

Who we are looking for…
We are looking for candidates who have a good level of general education including 5 GCSEs (including English Language and Mathematics) or equivalent. Experience of working in Local Government, preferably working in customer facing services such as Trading Standards, Environmental Health, Licensing or within a regulatory or enforcement service.
In addition, candidates should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to negotiate and influence effectively. The role also requires the ability to work independently while maintaining a customer focused approach to service delivery and the ability to plan and prioritise workloads.

As part of this role, there is a requirement to travel and so the postholder must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle to use for work / able to independently travel around the Westmorland and Furness area.
