We are seeking a Sanctions & Export Controls Specialist to provide expert guidance on economic sanctions, export control regulations, and trade compliance. This part-time consulting role requires comprehensive knowledge of sanctions regimes, dual-use export controls, and the strategic use of economic statecraft in international affairs. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities Analyze U.S. and international sanctions programs (OFAC, EU, UN) and their implications for business operations Provide expert guidance on export control regulations (EAR, ITAR, MTCR) and licensing requirements Monitor sanctions designations, regulatory updates, and enforcement actions affecting client activities Assess compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies for international transactions and partnerships Evaluate the strategic and economic impacts of sanctions on targeted countries, sectors, and entities Advise on due diligence procedures, screening protocols, and internal compliance program development Track legislative and policy developments in economic statecraft and technology restrictions Provide strategic analysis on emerging controls (semiconductor restrictions, critical technologies, etc.) ________________________________________ Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in International Law, International Relations, Economics, Business Administration, or related field Expertise: Strong understanding of U.S. sanctions programs (OFAC), export control regulations (EAR, ITAR), and trade compliance Knowledge: Proficiency in sanctions screening, license determination, and regulatory interpretation Analysis: Demonstrated ability to assess compliance risks and navigate complex regulatory frameworks Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for advisory services and compliance reporting ________________________________________ Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree (JD, Master's) in International Law, Trade, or related field Professional experience with government agencies (OFAC, BIS, State Department DDTC) or compliance roles Certification in sanctions/export controls (CAMS, CAMS-Audit, or similar) Experience with technology controls, emerging and foundational technologies, and foreign direct product rules Knowledge of international sanctions regimes (EU, UK, Australia, Japan) and multilateral export control regimes Background in defense industry, technology sector, or financial services compliance Experience with sanctions evasion patterns, risk indicators, and enforcement case studies Former government service in sanctions or export control enforcement ________________________________________ Compensation Structure $150-200/hour: Bachelor's degree with 5-10 years corporate compliance or trade experience $200-275/hour: Advanced degree or professional certification with 10-15 years experience, including government agency exposure $275-400/hour: Former senior OFAC/BIS/DDTC officials, licensed attorneys with sanctions/export controls specialization, or recognized experts with extensive enforcement experience ________________________________________ Work Arrangement Schedule: Flexible part-time hours (project-based consulting) Location: Remote work available Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on qualifications and experience ________________________________________ How to Apply Interested candidates should submit their resume, a cover letter highlighting relevant sanctions and export controls expertise, expected hourly rate based on qualifications, and any relevant publications or compliance guidance samples.
