Overview
We are looking for a full‑time HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) to work in the Haematology/Blood Transfusion Laboratory at Royal Preston Hospital – a Major Trauma Centre serving Preston, South Ribble and Chorley.
Applicants will be required to work across Royal Preston and Chorley hospitals. The role is physical, requiring moderate moving and handling of equipment and loads.
Responsibilities
* Perform work duties to the HCPC Biomedical Scientist standards.
* Undertake the correct procedures for the handling of specimens, pre- and post‑analysis.
* Maintain and operate equipment used in the preparation and analysis of specimens.
* Perform a range of laboratory tests autonomously and demonstrate an understanding of the scientific basis for tests and disease processes.
* Demonstrate awareness of factors affecting sample integrity, risks associated with reagents, methods and other tests indicated by analysis outcomes.
* Use the main laboratory computer system in accordance with service requirements.
Qualifications
Applicants must be HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientists with a Specialist Portfolio in Haematology/Blood Transfusion. Proof of qualifications will be required prior to shortlisting/interview.
Working Pattern
37.5 hours per week on a shift rota that includes daytime, evenings, overnight, weekends, and bank holidays during the probationary period. AFC enhancements will be paid upon successful completion.
Equipment
Major equipment includes Sysmex XN and CS 5100 series analysers, TOSOH G11 for Haemoglobinopathy Screening, Diamed IH1000 analysers for transfusion automation, and remote Haemobank fridges for electronic issuing of blood units.
