Job Description
The Laboratory Operational Assistant is primarily responsible for performing duties within the central laboratory related to inventory management, administrative reporting, sample handling, manual processing, and other miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Level I - Minimum
2. Ensure lab supplies are ordered and stocked under the direction of laboratory management.
3. Maintain inventory documentation and communicate delays in supply delivery.
4. Work within the Purchase Ordering system and coordinate with administrative personnel for accounts payable paperwork.
5. Follow-up with vendors on pending orders.
6. Keep supply areas audit-ready.
7. Process supplies quickly and accurately from receiving to shelves.
8. Maintain accurate inventory records within the database.
9. Handle receipts and purchase orders properly.
10. Support Reporting Officer with administrative tasks, including client report reprints and query management.
11. Assist with Sample Management, including unpacking, accessioning, storing, and archiving samples.
12. Retrieve and provide samples to laboratory staff as requested.
13. Perform manual sample processing, including aliquoting and special handling.
14. Follow policies, protocols, SOPs, and safety guidelines.
15. Communicate effectively with team members to ensure efficient daily operations.
1. Level II - Fully meets Level I qualifications
2. Perform manual sample processing such as PBMC isolation, aliquoting, and special handling.
3. Cross-train personnel in qualified tasks.
1. Level III - Fully meets Level I and II qualifications
2. Ensure lab testing complies with global protocols and SOPs to produce high-quality results.
3. Perform additional tasks like sample sorting, archiving, and instrument maintenance.
4. Demonstrate leadership through supervision, coaching, and mentoring.
Qualifications
Level I/II: High School Diploma or GED; Laboratory experience beneficial but not required.
Level III: Associate of Applied Science or Bachelor of Applied Science preferred; minimum 1 year clinical laboratory experience required.
