Sanctions Screening Lead
Job Description
This role focuses on conducting complex regulatory analysis across multiple jurisdictions, including the US, Japan, the UK and the EU, to support customer and payment escalations. You will assess potential sanctions and regulatory risks, evaluate alignment with the organisation’s risk appetite and provide clear, well-documented recommendations to protect the integrity of the business within the financial services environment.
Responsibilities
1. Perform detailed regulatory analysis on customer escalations and payment escalations, ensuring accurate interpretation of complex regulations across multiple jurisdictions such as the US, Japan, the UK and the EU.
2. Identify and assess sanctions and regulatory risks associated with specific transactions, customers or activities within the financial services and banking environment.
3. Evaluate whether identified risks fall within the organisation’s risk appetite and escalate issues appropriately when they exceed defined thresholds.
4. Review and interpret regulatory documentation to ensure that decisions and recommendations comply with relevant sanctions and regulatory requirements.
5. Prepare clear, concise and well-structured written recommendations that outline findings, risk assessments and proposed actions.
6. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to clarify regulatory requirements and support informed decision-making on high-risk or complex cases.
7. Maintain accurate records of reviews, analyses and decisions to support auditability and regulatory scrutiny.
8. Contribute to continuous improvement of compliance review processes by sharing insights on emerging regulatory trends and recurring risk themes.
Essential Skills
9. Proven experience in compliance or regulatory analysis within financial services or banking.
10. Strong understanding of sanctions frameworks and regulatory requirements relevant to cross-border financial activity.
11. Demonstrated ability to interpret complex regulations across multiple jurisdictions, including the US, Japan, the UK and the EU.
12. experience in sanctions review and risk management in a financial services context.
13. Ability to review and interpret regulatory documentation accurately and efficiently.
14. Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and well-reasoned recommendations.
15. Strong customer experience mindset, with the ability to balance regulatory requirements and risk considerations with customer impact.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
16. Background in banking or financial services operations supporting compliance or risk functions.
17. experience handling customer escalations and payment escalations in a regulated environment.
18. Ability to work with complex information and present findings in a structured and understandable manner.
19. Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to analysis and documentations.

20. 6‑month contract with a strong view to moving into a permanent role
21. Hybrid working: 3 days in the office, 2 days from home
