Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is transitioning offender health services to Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust. You are applying for a Healthcare Assistant role within the Offender Health Care Group at HMP Lincoln, a Category B men's prison in Lincolnshire. Employment terms, pay band, and site location are as listed below. This role is part of a multi-site team delivering healthcare to detained individuals with a focus on maintaining health equal to community standards, along with emotional support during a challenging time in their lives.
Job Description
Job responsibilities are to work with the nursing team to support patients accessing healthcare at HMP Lincoln, contribute to a wide range of care from initial assessment and triage to minor illness/injury care, and assist in ensuring a positive healthcare experience for patients with historically poorer health outcomes. You will support patients to understand and manage their own health needs and engage in health promotion activities. The service operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day, in partnership with other providers.
In This Role You Will
* Support GP and nurse led clinics, including assisting with minor surgery.
* Assist registered nurses with patient observations and document information.
* Undertake technical and clinical procedures (e.g., venepuncture, wound care, urinalysis, ECG, physical observations, specimen collection) following training and assessment.
* Follow protocols and patient pathways; report health abnormalities to the Senior Nurse on duty.
* Participate in health promotion activities (e.g., sexual health screening, smoking cessation).
* Support the response to health emergencies and provide health escort to hospital when appropriate.
* Maintain a safe clinical environment in line with health and safety and infection control policies; report incidents to senior staff.
* Monitor and maintain supplies of materials and equipment within the care environment.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Essential: GCSE English and Maths or equivalent; NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience.
Knowledge and Experience
* Essential: Experience of working in a healthcare setting; awareness of confidentiality; experience with IT systems; good understanding and interest in Offender Health services.
* Desirable: Experience of working with offenders; awareness of health promotion initiatives; familiar with SystmOne.
Skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to use medical equipment; ability to plan and organise patient clinics; ability to work as part of a team; ability to move around the prison site and travel between sites.
