Now, alongside several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty has been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage. This is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
We are seeking a dynamic Quantity Surveyor to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
What You'll Be Doing
Work location: Project‑based role that complies with the Company’s flexible working policies – 4 days onsite, 1 day remote.
Experienced QS who has a track record in managing all costs and income within their area of responsibility. They seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. Preferably, they will be a Chartered Member of the RICS, CICES or CIOB or working to achieve membership in the near future. Experience managing a small team of commercial staff and mentoring others on their journey to becoming professionally qualified is desirable. They will maintain their Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

* Financial: Manages all costs and income within their area of responsibility
* Organisational: Direct reports could include Apprentice QS, Trainee QS, Graduate or Assistant QSs
Interfaces
* Internal: Commercial and wider Project Team
* External: Supply Chain, Customers, Stakeholders, Professional and Industry Bodies
Accountabilities
Governance
* Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company’s governance requirements and maximises LEAN/digital opportunities
Commercial Management and Administration
* Requests information and systematically checks data
* Prepares Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules & analyses tender documents
* Critically appraises, estimates and negotiates the above with 3rd parties
* Reviews complex contract programmes such as Time‑Location
* Assists with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes
* Monitors subcontract activities, measures and responds appropriately
* Prepares Internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation and reports to senior project staff
Customer/Change Management
* Understanding of the Customer Contract and undertakes customer and stakeholder management
* Analyses rates & prices, agrees on variations and/or compensation events as required
* Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required
* Manages commercial aspects with Customer and Stakeholders for their area of responsibility
Procurement
* Undertakes constructability analyses using construction programmes
* Prepares procurement programme and helps develop the strategy
Development, Recruitment and Retention
* Supports the recruitment, supervision and development of team members
Who We're Looking For
Essentials
* BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
* Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
* CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person)
