We have a fixed term Controls Engineering Technician (Day Shift) role available within BD's state-of-the-art Push Button production line. This role is ideal for someone with strong electrical, mechanical, and automation skills and is technical, collaborative, and improvement-focused. Role: Controls Engineering Technician (Day Shift) Location: BD, South West Rate: £35,000 - £40,000 32% shift premium Contract length: Fixed term Shift Patterns: 11am - 11pm (3 days on, 3 days off) Responsibilities: Provide feedback on existing manufacturing equipment and address performance issues Lead and support efforts to improve process efficiencies, reduce waste, and increase equipment uptime Upskill and support technicians to ensure optimal equipment reliability Monitor and adjust PLCs and HMIs to diagnose and resolve technical faults Support engineering in maintenance and optimization of vision systems Implement improvements in TPM to increase OEE and support PM completion Maintain and troubleshoot electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems Maintain accurate equipment logs and document process changes Collaborate with the engineering team on installations, debugging, and production improvements Attend Production Analysis Board meetings to support shift technicians and loss investigations Drive continuous improvement and provide technical mentorship to technicians Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures Essential requirements: Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science 5 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer / Technician or in a similar field Strong knowledge of fault finding, root cause analysis, and TPM methodology Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot PLCs and servo systems Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLCs, robotics, and automated assembly equipment Strong communication and collaboration skills within cross-functional teams Experience with MES, SCADA, and quality assurance vision systems Desirable requirements: Driving license and use of a car Knowledge of modern manufacturing technologies and continuous improvement tools Benefits: Matched contribution pension scheme (up to 10% of salary) Life assurance and critical illness cover Private Medical Insurance Share save scheme (matched up to £150/month) Reward & recognition schemes for Health and Safety and Continuous Improvement Employee Assistance Program for physical, mental, and financial wellbeing Flexible benefits including cycle to work scheme Subsidized canteen and free parking 240 hours annual leave (increasing to 247.5 after 5 years of service) Advice and editing on your current CV Dedicated support team throughout your assignment Paid holiday Access to exclusive online restaurant and retail discounts £300* referral bonus opportunity Opportunity for progression into permanent roles Competitive rates of pay Randstad Business Support is acting as an Employment Agency in relation to this vacancy.
