* Check, perform and report a range of routine and non-routine biochemical and immunoassay tests on blood and other bodily fluids.
* Use of hazardous chemicals is required.
* Work flexibly to reflect service needs, including extended working days and/or participation in a 24 hour, 7 days per week service.
* Demonstrate duties to new or less experienced employees.
* Take charge of a section, responsibility for result authorisation, and supervise unqualified staff. Work autonomously.

The Laboratory has strong links with the University of Exeter Medical School through the Eastern site, providing a comprehensive Research and Development analytical service, supporting trials and translating diagnostic research into clinical practice. The laboratories are at the forefront of research in areas such as diabetes and gastroenterology autoimmunity. The Northern site in Barnstaple is our focus, where we are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our team of dedicated professionals.
Duties include technical and specialist investigations, routine maintenance, problem solving on analysers, and assisting in the supervision and training of new staff. You will be expected to take charge of a section, supervise result authorisation and supervise unqualified staff, and you will be required to work autonomously.
The Department of Blood Sciences is UKAS accredited to ISO 15189, holds IBMS training approval and uses Q-Pulse for quality management. We provide a comprehensive range of diagnostic services for the acute Trust and to 23 GP practices across North Devon & North Cornwall, with a strong relationship with Primary care colleagues and Devon CCG. We are using ICE to develop innovative means of syndrome-based requesting and to optimise the service.
A managed Laboratory service contract has been jointly procured with South Devon NHSFT, providing resourcing with new Roche Cobas analysers. We are seeking an individual committed to supporting the team in providing the best possible service for patients.

Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 per annum pro rata. Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full-time.
