Gas Engineer Assistant
Location: Edinburgh, Falkirk, Stirling, East Lothian, Mid Lothian, West Lothian.
Salary: £28.2k per annum, increasing to £31.3k upon successful completion of probation.
Once qualified, your earning potential increases with paid standby and overtime.
Start date: September 2026.

Responsibilities
- Support engineers on site and learn daily during gas service and mains repair activities.
- Excavate and dig on public and private highways, lay and repair gas pipes, working outdoors safely as part of a team.
- Participate in essential works to keep gas supply running to millions of people year‑round, including standby and overtime for irregular hours.
- Maintain SGN vans and tools before and after each job, ensuring equipment is safe and efficient.
Qualifications & Requirements
- No prior experience required; all training and equipment will be provided.
- Curiosity and desire to learn and develop skills; willingness to seek knowledge and challenge yourself.
- Resilience, ability to bounce back from challenges and learn from mistakes.
- Initiative and ownership; accountable for delivering safe and effective services.
- Calmness in public interaction and ability to adapt to situations.
- Comfortable working a rota with shift patterns, including weekends and nights (24/7, 365 days).
- Must be clean‑shaven, pass face‑fit test, wear tight fitting dust masks and breathing apparatus.
- Valid UK driver’s licence.
- Reside within a commutable distance from the listed locations.
