Offer description

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with VoiceAbility.

About VoiceAbility

VoiceAbility is an independent charity and one of the UK’s largest providers of advocacy and involvement services. We deliver a wide range of service contracts funded by local authorities, health trusts, and other voluntary and private sector organizations.

We’ve been supporting people to have their say in decisions about their health, care, and wellbeing for over 40 years. We ensure that people are heard when it matters most. For more information on advocacy and our services, please visit our website – www.voiceability.org.

Why Volunteer with VoiceAbility

Volunteering with VoiceAbility offers you the chance to make a meaningful difference in your community by helping others ensure their voices are heard and valued. Our roles are rewarding and may challenge you in new ways. You’ll develop communication skills, meet new people, and gain a better understanding of others, all while experiencing personal fulfillment.

We ask for a minimum commitment of just 3 hours per week, but you are welcome to volunteer more if you wish. Whether you're looking to give back, learn something new, or connect with others, we’d love to have you join us!

This voluntary position is currently only available in Newham, on the second Monday of each month, to support a group in the E13 postcode.

Connections Volunteers assist our volunteers and staff who have lived experience of learning disabilities and/or autism in using local services. Support may include:

* Promoting VA services through presentations and attending events
* Providing 1:1 support for clients, including preparation for meetings, travel, and basic admin
* Engaging in community contact points such as drop-ins, outreach sessions, and site visits
* Being the first contact for new clients, gathering information, and explaining processes
* Signposting clients to appropriate services within or outside our organization
* Supporting clients with various needs to access services related to learning disabilities and mental health issues

All volunteering takes place Monday to Friday, between 09:00 and 17:00. You must be over 18 and residing in the UK. Please note that there are no opportunities for weekend or evening volunteering.

Safeguarding Commitment Statement

VoiceAbility is committed to safeguarding all clients. Volunteers will be required to undertake a DBS check at the appropriate level and provide contact details for at least two referees, in line with our safer recruitment practices.

EDI Statement

VoiceAbility promotes an inclusive workplace that values diversity, treats everyone equally, and encourages all to reach their full potential.

As a Disability Confident employer, applicants who identify as disabled and meet the essential criteria will be offered an interview. For alternative application methods, please contact the Volunteering team.
