Lead Engineering Manager – SSEN Transmission
Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations – Glasgow, Perth, Inverness or Aberdeen.
Salary: £78,400 - £117,600 + car/allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available.
The Role
As we accelerate towards Net Zero and deliver some of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the UK, we’re looking for visionary leaders to join our Onshore Project Engineering team. You’ll provide technical leadership and accountability for major schemes—including LOTI Projects (Skye, Argyll), ASTI programmes, and a dedicated Customer Connections team. Reporting to a Regional Head of Engineering (or Director of Project Engineering for Customer Connections), you’ll inspire multidisciplinary teams across Civil, OHL, Cable, Substation, and Protection & Control disciplines to deliver innovative solutions that power a greener future.
You Will
* Lead with Impact: Oversee and coordinate multiple design teams, managing complex technical interfaces to deliver aligned, value-driven outcomes across a portfolio exceeding £1bn.
* Drive Technical Excellence: Ensure engineering solutions meet and exceed business, regulatory, and safety requirements.
* Inspire and Develop: Mentor Engineering Managers and Senior Engineers, fostering a high-performance culture and supporting career progression.
* Innovate for Tomorrow: Champion continuous improvement, share lessons learned, and implement best practices to enhance project performance and efficiency.
* Put Safety First: Promote health, safety, and environmental excellence, ensuring compliance with CDM and ESQCR regulations.
You Have
* A proven track record of leading high-performing engineering teams, with a passion for innovation and successful delivery of complex projects.
* Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, with deep expertise in Electrical Transmission.
* Strong understanding of regulatory, statutory, and safety requirements for transmission projects, and the ability to translate these into effective strategies.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, able to simplify complex technical information and build strong relationships.
* Commercial acumen, with experience managing budgets, consultant frameworks, and delivering value through effective risk and resource management.
