Group Commercial Director We are seeking a Senior Group Commercial Director to join the Board and take ownership of commercial strategy, governance, and value creation across a diversified group of environmental, waste management, recycling, land-based and industrial service businesses. This is a statutory Board role, requiring an individual with the gravitas, judgement, and sector credibility to operate at the highest level, while maintaining a strong understanding of the operational realities of contract-led, asset-intensive, regulated service environments. The role focuses on strategic commercial leadership, long-term growth, margin protection, and commercial risk management across the Group. Board Responsibilities Act as a full Board Director, contributing to Group strategy, governance, risk oversight, and long-term value creation. Provide authoritative commercial insight and challenge to Board discussions, investment decisions, and strategic priorities. Support the Board in assessing market dynamics, regulatory change, customer concentration risk, and commercial exposure. Uphold the highest standards of corporate governance, ethical leadership, and fiduciary responsibility. Group Commercial Leadership Commercial Strategy & Value Creation Define and oversee the Group-wide commercial strategy aligned to long-term growth, sustainability, and shareholder value. Shape commercial direction across environmental services, waste & recycling, land management, plant & equipment hire, and industrial services. Guide strategic decisions on pricing models, service mix, market entry, and customer portfolio optimisation. Provide commercial leadership input into M&A strategy, including target evaluation, commercial due diligence, and integration oversight. Contract, Pricing & Risk Oversight Maintain Board-level oversight of contract strategy, pricing discipline, margin performance, and customer profitability. Ensure commercial commitments appropriately reflect operational cost drivers such as fleet, plant, labour, fuel, compliance, and regulation. Oversee risk associated with long-term contracts, frameworks, public-sector tenders, and complex service agreements. Market, Sector & Customer Insight Bring deep understanding of sector-specific dynamics, including regulation, sustainability requirements, circular economy models, and infrastructure investment cycles. Monitor external market trends and competitor activity, ensuring the Board remains well-informed and forward-looking. Support senior-level customer and partner relationships where Board involvement adds strategic value. Executive & Operational Interface Work in close partnership with the CEO, CFO, and Managing Directors to align commercial ambition with operational capability. Act as a mentor and sounding board to senior commercial leaders across the Group. Encourage consistent commercial governance, capability, and standards without undermining local operational accountability. Person Specification Proven experience as a Group Commercial Director, Commercial Director, or equivalent operating at Board level. Strong background within environmental services, waste management & recycling, land-based services, industrial services, plant or asset hire, infrastructure or facilities-related sectors. Demonstrable experience in contract-based, regulated, asset-intensive service businesses. Experience contributing to or leading Board-level decisions on growth, risk, investment, and acquisitions. Skills & Attributes High commercial and financial literacy with the ability to interpret complex performance and risk data. Strategic, measured decision-maker with sound judgement and strong governance mindset. Gravitas and credibility to influence at Board, investor, customer, and regulatory level.
