HR Advisor (Schools)

Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and proactive HR Advisor to provide comprehensive HR support within a school environment. This role is pivotal in ensuring that policies, employment law, and safeguarding standards are applied effectively while supporting staff and leadership teams.
The HR Advisor will act as the first point of contact for HR queries, providing advice, guidance, and practical solutions across the full employee lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide professional advice and guidance to managers and staff on HR policies, employment law, and employee relations.
2. Manage employee relations cases, including absence management, disciplinary, grievance, and capability procedures.
3. Support the recruitment and onboarding process in line with safer recruitment practices.
4. Maintain accurate HR records and ensure compliance with GDPR and safeguarding requirements.
5. Assist with pay, terms, and conditions queries, ensuring consistency and fairness.
6. Produce clear and concise strategies for resolving employee relations matters.
7. Support colleagues in the delivery of HR transactional and non-transactional activities.
8. Build positive relationships with staff, leaders, and external stakeholders across the school community.
9. Act as a coach/mentor to junior HR staff where required.
10. Contribute to HR projects, change management processes, and wider school initiatives.
Person Specification
Essential:
11. Current knowledge of HR policies, legislation, and employment law.
12. CIPD membership (or working towards).
13. Evidence of continuous professional development.
14. Strong experience in employee relations casework.
15. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
16. IT literate with good MS Office skills and experience of HRIS.
17. Ability to prioritise, work to deadlines, and manage conflicting demands.
18. High standards of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
19. Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Desirable:
20. Previous HR experience in an education setting.
21. Experience working across multiple sites.
22. Experience in change management, TUPE, or working in a unionised environment.
