Property Lawyer – Redbridge Council
📍 Location: 128–142 High Road, Ilford, Greater London, IG1 1DE
💰 Salary: £180 per hour
⏰ Hours: 37 per week
📅 Schedule: Monday to Friday
📆 Contract: 3-Month Temporary Contract
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Property Lawyer to provide a comprehensive and professional legal service across all aspects of commercial and residential property law. You will ensure the Council’s interests are protected and that all statutory and policy obligations are met.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver a full range of professional legal services in commercial and residential property law.
Act as a key source of expertise in residential acquisitions.
Provide legal advice and support to committees, officers, and Council Members.
Manage property law matters within the Property and Planning Team, under the direction of the Principal Lawyer.
Ensure effective implementation of Council policies and decisions.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of property and local government law.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, Members, and external stakeholders.
Represent the Council professionally in dealings with the public, partners, and external organisations.
Communicate effectively, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
Main Duties
Advising on Legal Issues
Act as the lead legal advisor on residential acquisitions, regeneration, and commercial property matters.
Advise on multi-agency projects, including those involving the third sector and charitable organisations.
Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts, leases, and transfers.
Conduct due diligence, title reviews, and prepare title reports.
Progress transactions to completion, including SDLT submissions and post-completion work.
Provide legal advice and formal reports to committees.
Keep abreast of relevant legislative and policy changes.
Deliver training and briefings for Members and Officers.
Case Conduct and Advocacy
Manage a diverse caseload of commercial and residential property matters.
Conduct advocacy in Courts and Tribunals where appropriate.
Negotiate with external agencies and individuals on behalf of the Council.
Team Support and Supervision
Provide guidance and supervision to junior legal staff.
Deputise for the Principal Lawyer (Property and Planning) when required.
Contribute to team management, training, and professional development.
Policy, Practice, and Governance
Review and update policies, precedents, and practice notes.
Ensure all practices reflect current legislation and professional standards.
Promote the use of digital and IT systems within Legal Services.

Financial Responsibilities
Provide legal advice to identify and mitigate financial risks.
Ensure compliance with the Council’s financial procedures for all income and expenditure.
Maintain accurate financial records and cost tracking.

Share knowledge and contribute to a positive learning culture within the team.
