Locum Consultant in Diagnostic Neuroradiology

The advertised post is for a consultant diagnostic neuroradiologist at Barts Health NHS Trust following a general increase in workload and as a result of the successful introduction of the 24/7 thrombectomy service in 2021. We are looking for a highly enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our existing team of 18 neuroradiologists to help develop the service and to support the active training program. The post will be based at both The Royal London Hospital and St. Bartholomew's Hospital.

The successful applicant should have completed subspecialist training in diagnostic neuroradiology. The successful candidate will join the team of 18 neuroradiologists (including 6 neuro interventional radiologists and 4 head and neck radiologists) currently providing a comprehensive neuroimaging service to the Trust. There is a regional neurosciences Unit, regional head & neck Unit, level 1 Trauma Unit and Hyperacute Stroke Unit all located at the RLH site and Oncology /Cyberknife radiosurgery is located at Barts.


Main duties of the job

1. To support, develop and enhance the Neuroimaging and stroke services at Barts Health NHS Trust, supporting the Neurosciences Directorates.

2. To contribute to the high-quality Consultant-led diagnostic Neuroradiology imaging service at Barts and The Royal London Hospitals. The annual consultant reporting for the combined Neuroradiology and Head &Neck Radiology service is currently around 13,000 CT and 8000 MRs.

3. To support other imaging developments within the Trust.

4. To participate in the 1 in 9 neuroradiology on‑call Rota.

5. To provide evidence-based care for all patients.

6. To adhere at all times to the appropriate clinical and quality standards.

7. To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with colleagues, general practitioners' community services, and all healthcare agencies.

8. To maintain and promote team and multi‑disciplinary work.

9. To participate fully in the management of the Departments and to liaise closely with the respective clinical and academic group director and General Manager.

Person Specification


Higher Qualifications:

* MB BS or equivalent
* FRCR or equivalent
* CCT (or within 6 months of date of interview) or on specialist register
* MRCP/MRCS


Knowledge Clinical expertise in Specialty /Subspecialty:

* Extensive experience in diagnostic Neuroradiology
* Completion of higher specialist training in neuroradiology.
* Participation in incident investigation, Simulated patient safety training
* Training in root cause analysis


Training Expected: Management/Audit Experience:


Academic Achievements:

* Experience of research, presentations to learned societies.


Research/Publications:

* Record of presentations at specialist societies
* First author publications in refereed journals


Personal Skills:

* Teaching undergraduates and postgraduates
* Demonstrates honesty, integrity and appreciation of ethical dilemmas
* Portfolio of teaching material as educational supervisor


Personal qualities and self‑management:

* Self motivated
* Ability to work under pressure
* Able to work as part of a team
* Flexible approach to work and evidence of team working
* Able to change and respond to changing circumstances.
* Evidence of continuing professional development
