Overview
All consultants in the department have a continuing and individual responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and a general responsibility to provide, in conjunction with their colleagues, an effective service to meet the needs of local people within the resources available. The post holder will deliver a consultant‑led service in the highest standards of patient care and will work closely with the multi‑professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain good working practices within wards, outpatients and A&E.
* Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services and primary care.
* Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi‑disciplinary team.
* Work in conjunction with colleagues to provide a comprehensive imaging service. The timetable is worked flexibly and will be agreed with colleagues.
* Provide specialist radiological advice and services to users of the radiology department, including MDT participation.
* Accept responsibility for compliance with ionising and radiation regulations, along with the radiation protection supervisor and the radiation protection officers.
* Accept personal responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to the post holder, providing advice and information as required to clinical colleagues and other staff.
* Share responsibility for the supervision, training and professional development of radiographic staff including radiology SpRs and other departmental staff as necessary.
* Attend regular departmental meetings and participate in department governance and development of the service.
Working Pattern & Timetable
* 8.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions per week.
* 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) per week (usually off‑site).
* Additional responsibilities may include duty radiology, ultrasound, MRI and CT depending on interests and experience.
* Schedule is flexible and agreed with colleagues.
Candidate Requirements
* Consultant radiologist with a special interest in paediatric and neuro imaging.
* Completed CCT or equivalent (Pathway Portfolio) and must be on the Specialist Register.
* Experience in multidisciplinary teamwork and in managing imaging services.
